The Dash Poem, by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end

He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

He was really cool, he had already let me pet him and would sit on my hand, that's huge trust for a bird I only had less than a week.

Now I'm worried to get another... why did he die? did he have some disease? what if his cage is contaminated with that disease?? I'm afraid if I somehow don't clean all the cage stuff well enough that I might somehow make another bird sick. erg

Travel:
I'm excited. Sarah and I are taking the kids up to Port Huron to go to the beach on Monday. Michigan has some pretty cool tourist stuff and awesome perks to living in this state and I can't say I've really taken advantage of it all. I want to start exploring Michigan more. A friend of mine told me about Port Austin, which is at the tip of the thumb, I googled it and it looks really pretty. I want to go there some time but it's 3.5 hours drive from where I live.

Domestic:
I picked mulberries off the mulberry tree behind my house, and got feasted upon by a thousand hungry mosquitos while I was doing it. I cleaned them off and then got them soaking in a bowl with sugar and I'm going to make a pie tomorrow. That's right... a fresh pie outta hand picked berries. I feel so Martha Stewart-ish.

Pets:
I got a budgie(bird). I don't know what his name is yet. He's really vocal and I picked a vocal bird on purpose cause budgies are like the 3rd or 4th best speaking bird in the parrot family and I'm hoping he'll learn to talk. He seems like a sweetheart, I think he'll be awesome once he gets rid of his new home nervousness.

I thought that was a great picture and then I uploaded it and it was dark looking, probably because the sun was shining brightly into the window behind him. I edited it to increase the brightness and contrast.

He's so pretty ^_^ .. but the picture was ruined by the bars...

Psychotic:
I have a doctor appointment on Tuesday to get some sort of drugs to calm me down. I have anxiety attacks that can last several days in a row and happen often. I feel like something is wrong with my heart and I have chest pains and arm cramps and leg cramps and long story short I get convinced I'm dying. I've been to the emergency room for this stuff 3 or 4 times now this year. I've hyperventilated until I'm shaking like crazy and my heart is racing... So, hopefully as of Tuesday I'll not feel like I'm on the verge of death anymore.

my rats are dropping like flies... I just had Moe put to sleep within this last month because he had non-curable cancer on his head and neck and now I noticed Gordo has a Tumor (that seemed to double in size overnight) growing where his testicles used to be, I have to call the vet ASAP in the morning because I don't want that preventing him from going potty and blocking him up.. that would be so painful. I'm so glad I noticed that when I did, he is a lil plump and I coulda mistaken that for bum-fat. I only have three rats left from the 9 I had a couple years ago... that is too much death to have to handle. I am NEVER going to have that many rats at one time again and I think I may take a break from them after they all pass. I'm really sad, Gordo ties my very first rat Finnagain for the most lovable, friendly rat I have ever had.
I'm being very 'glass is half empty' right now, MAYBE it's a cyst or something that they can fix... but, I already had a rat with this problem (sorta she was a girl and it was reproductive) and they said I should have her put down while she was still comfortable.

I figured he assumed we didn't really click also... but he's randomly asked if i'm dating anyone and he invited me somewhere a couple years ago outta the blue and I said I wouldn't be able to make it and then this... weirdness... it's been FIVE years and to me, talking to me only to tell me his life is all peachy and then not talking anymore was just rude .. maybe it's just me, was he being a douche?

****************************************

i got my oil changed today, did some grocery shoppin'... spent about an hour chopping veggies for a massive batch of veggie soup i'm making late tonight after the sun goes down since i can't use the stove for a long time without heating up the house really bad, it's so hot in here.

*************************

Gia went to the Toledo zoo for the 1st grade field trip today. My friend was a chaperon for another group there and she said she ran into Gia at the zoo WITHOUT her group, she was playing in the fountain and was soaking wet. The chaperon for her group DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE she wasn't with them. My friend told her to go find her group and waited until she had before she went on with the kids she had. I don't think I'll let Gia go on field trips again until she's old enough to call me if she gets lost or KNOW what to do if something like that happened, basically when I can trust to be alone in case her chaperon is a retard.

I had drama in the evening last night so I couldn't sum up my day last night BUT yesterday was cool.

Woke up. I was bored and Sarah had asked me to go to Comicon the night before and i said probably not cause she was germ infested and had the swine flu a couple days ago... BUT I WAS BORED.. and it sounded fun and I decided fuck the swine flu i'll go anyways.

So we went.. I met Eric Avari(he's really nice), from Flight of the Living Dead... one of the most bad ass creepy zombies ever!

^see look at that creepiness^

I got an original Tank Girl movie poster... I'm getting a frame for that (I need a tank girl tattoo) I asked a boy dressed up like a Ghostbuster if I could have a pic with him, sarah has that on her camera.. I've yet to see if I look decent enough to post it.

K... fast forward, we left & went to subway, ate.. left there and went to Plant Fitness were we joined the gym... yay! i'm uber fat and i need to work out all the time and burn the fat off.

and theeeen... i went shopping and got 2 pairs of work out pants, all my pants were hot-topic kinda baggy or they were jeans, neither would be comfy or follow the dress code. i found a pair of pants when I got home that I forgot I own that will work, too.. so that's 3 work out outfits...

I don't know if zombie dreams qualify as recurring.. those are the only dreams that have the same thing in common that I dream about a lot. Probably because of my movie choices. They're good dreams until I have to kill someone I know when they go zombie.. it's like watching some new zombie movie i've never seen.

Dork - Nerd - Geek

Dork: Someone who has odd interests, and is often silly at times. A dork is also someone who can be themselves and not care what anyone thinks. -This is me. I am a dork.-

Nerd: A stereotypical label used to describe a person that is socially inadequate. A four letter word, but a six figure income. Also, the group of people who will most likely make a life changing invention that will radically change the world. Nerds created almost everything that civilization needs, such as computers, calculators, windows, etc.

Geek: A geek should NEVER be confused with a nerd. Geeks are different in that they do possess social skills, albeit bizarre ones. Geeks like Star Trek, etc, but also have friends usually, among the goth community, if not other geeks. A geek is usually physically weak, but his/her goth friends will often stand up for him/her, as the geek usually puts his friends first. They have a pathological hatred of Townies, Preps, and Chavs.

(taking from the urban dictionary - FYI - I copied and pasted bits and pieces of what i felt like copying)
